About We Rock the Spectrum Loudoun
Beatriz is a savvy entrepreneur who has owned two companies and is now volunteering as the Executive Director of the Loudoun Literacy Council in Loudoun County, VA. Having been successful in business has given her the ability to do what she loves and that is giving back to her community. She is involved in several nonprofit organizations, is on the board of directors of The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia and The Arc of Loudoun (where she is the treasurer).
Beatriz was introduced to The Arc of Loudoun when her grandson (Eileen’s son) had a hard time adjusting as a toddler, someone suggested they reach out to the ARC where she learned the importance of bringing about a just and equitable world for people with disabilities. She often noticed that the children had limited access to play areas, which led her to We Rock The Spectrum.
Eileen, a very loving and committed mom, has always had a way of getting even the shyest child to open up to her. At a young age she gravitated to children with special needs. As a young mother, when her son showed signs of difficulties maneuvering through his first few years, she took quick and decisive action to make sure he had what he needed.
The Arc of Loudoun turned out to be her second home for a while. She eventually worked for them with their preschoolers, and when parents showed concern that there was no summer program for elementary school age children with disabilities, she approached The Arc and asked if she could build a 6 week program for these children involving yoga, indoor and outdoor activities, with visitors like Loudoun Sheriff Department and the Fire Department. At the same time, she started a help Facebook page for parents like her who were looking for ways to help their children and had a need for a safe space to share experiences.
This mother-daughter team is ready to help children with special needs and neurotypical children in Loudoun County have the fun experiences that all children should have in the WRTS playground.
